Random Spells

Every so often I need random spells. Here, a quick my-personal-taste-weighted spell list.

Random Level: Roll d10 with disadvantage, reading 0 as “cantrip” — the lower of the two is the level of the spell.

Random School: Determine the school of the spell on a d8:

  1. Abjuration
  2. Conjuration
  3. Divination
  4. Enchantment
  5. Evocation
  6. Illusion
  7. Necromancy
  8. Transmutation

Consult https://media.wizards.com/2015/downloads/dnd/DnD_SpellLists_1.0.pdf (or equivalent) to determine the actual spell in the intersection of spell and school.

For a really fast version, here are 100 spells to fill the interstices of this chart. I’ve introduced 2 pseudoschools (“healing” and “spacetime”) to round out the numbers and split evocation up a bit.
